Hey guys there's a practical lab and today we're going to make a self-sustaining terrarium which is called a mesocosm. To run this experiment
you need: a sealed glass jar with the cover lid, then a gravel or pebbles, then a coffee filter or sphagnum moss that's an option charcoal also
can be an optional layer and also your main layer is the potting mix -okay- soil. Okay, so let's get this done. Add a bottom layer of gravel or pebbles
so it will serve as your drainage system: the gravel or pebbles should cover completely the surface of your glass jar. To complete this layer I also want to
put some orchids substrate to aerate the soil more. Then you have to separate this layer from your main one using organic coffee filters then put your main layer
a potting mix soil so it can also completely cover the surface of the bottom layers and cover your glass jar. Keep it sealed for a one week to see how it goes. Then
the next step can be done. If you don't want to use regular plants you can choose the seeds to germinate them so for this to happen you need to obtain a regular plate a paper towel which has to
be put on the top of plate, then make it wet using a spray bottle with water, put some seeds on it. I chose these: make a single layer of seeds, cover them and
also make them wet. Welcome back guys, one week is behind and now we are ready to use our mesocosm. When the planting is done don't forget to water your plants
I use regular tap water which has different minerals salts and ions and close your mesocosm tight. When mesocosm is closed and it's airtight keep it like this
for two months and don't forget to avoid a direct sunlight. Thank you guys for the slab I hope you're having a great summer and stay healthy.
