It is an animal without a backbone.

We sort things by their properties.

What is a mammal?

It's a vertebrate. Their body is covered by hair or fur. They give birth and feed their offspring by the milk they produce.

They breathe using lungs. A bat is a mammal that flies. A dolphin is a mammal that swims.

What are birds?

They are vertebrates. They have a beak, wings and feathers.  They breathe using lungs and they lay eggs. A pinguin and an ostrich are birds that do not fly.

What are amphibians?

They are vertebrates. They lay eggs. They live in water when they are young and on land when they are adult. They don't have scales. Adults breathe with their lungs or through their skin.

What are reptiles?

They are vertebrates. They've got sclaes that keep their skins dry and waterproof. They breathe using lungs and they lay eggs.

What are fish?

They are vertebrates. They have scales and fins. They live in water. They breathe using gills. They lay eggs.

What are baleen plates?

Those are the teeth of a whale.

What are blowholes?

Those are the holes for a dolphin to breathe.
