the will to live life differently can
0:18
start in some of the most unusual places
0:21
this is where I come from Tomalin it's a
0:24
market town in the north of England
0:26
15,000 people between leeds and
0:28
manchester fairly normal market tone
0:30
used to look like this and now it's more
0:34
like this with fruit and veg and herb
0:38
spreads and up all over the place we
0:40
call it propaganda gardening corner of
0:45
our railway station car park front of
0:47
our health center people's front gardens
0:50
and even in front of the police station
0:54
we've got to edible canal towpath and
0:57
we've got sprouting cemeteries the soil
1:00
is extremely good we've even invented a
1:08
new form of tourism it's called
1:09
vegetable tourism and believe it or not
1:11
people come from all over the world to
1:14
poke around in our raised beds even when
1:17
there's not much growing but it starts a
1:20
conversation and you know we're not
1:23
doing it because we're bored we're doing
1:27
it because we want to start a revolution
1:30
we tried to answer this simple question
1:32
can you find a unifying language that
1:35
cuts across age and income and culture
1:38
that will help people themselves found a
1:40
new way of living see spaces around them
1:43
differently think about the resource
1:44
they're used differently interact
1:47
differently can we find that language
1:49
and then can we replicate those actions
1:53
and the answer would appear to be yes
1:56
and the language would appear to be food
Answer and discuss:
- What do you think did they do?
- What is urban and periurban agriculture? (See: FAO-UPA)
- What is the function of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)?
Later, look for an example of urban and peri-urban agriculture in your country or abroad. Analyse this example.
Finally, prepare an urban agriculture proposal with your work group (3-4 people) to carry out in your town. Share it with classmates.
When all work groups have presented their proposal, together make a proposal to make a school garden in your school.
Present the proposal of a school garden to the principal of the school.
