This is a Clilstore unit. You can .
A Virtual Machine is a program which simulates a virtual computer on a real computer, (the correct verb in this context is "to emulate" instead of simulate). In this exercise we are going to create a virtual machine and we are going to install the operative system LLiurex 16.06 on it.
Keep in mind that you are a regular "user" with no administrative privileges in your physical machine, meaning Lliurex won't allow you to perform many tasks we need to make on this unit. That's the reason why we need the virtual machine. On the VM you are the 'admin' user.
In the following picture you can see how a virtual machine looks like. It is a LLiurex running on a host computer window.
Use the file manager Caja (menu Lugares->carpeta personal) to check out if there is a file called lliurex-escriptori_amd64_1606_latest.iso inside the compartida folder. This is the LLiurex 16.06 installer file.
Run Oracle Virtual box, selecting the menu Aplicaciones->Administración LLiurex->Oracle VirtualBox menu. VirtualBox is the manager program for virtual machines in LLiurex.
Create a new virtual machine clicking on the button nuevo/nou
Write a name for the new virtual machine, ( see the picture below, but don't name it LLiurex 14, name it LLiurex 16 instead). Write the type of operative system -linux, and the subtype Ubuntu 64 bits as well. Then click on the next button
In this window allocate 2Gb from the memory RAM of your computer to the virtual machine. Remember 1GB equals 1024 Mb
The virtual machine needs a virtual hard disk. Actually this is a file in which Virtualbox emulates a hard disk. Chose the option to create a new virtual disk
Select vdi
Select dynamic reservation. This option means that although the maximum size of the virtual Hardisk is 20GB size, the vdi file will take up the size of the operative system at the beginning, and its size will be increased when more space is needed up to 20Gb.
Finally, write a name for the vdi file, and set its maximum size to around 20Gb, then click on crear.
Now the virtual machine has been created. You have a virtual computer ready to be turned on, and be displayed in a window. The virtual machine name must appear on the left panel. For the time being your computer has no operative system. You must install LLiurex 16 following the next steps
Select the VM (virtual machine) in the left panel. The right panel will show a report of the different hardware parts of your VM.
Make a double click on the pantalla section. We are going to increase to 128M the amount of memory reserved for video in the VM.
Enable 3D acceleration
Our VM is useless unless we install the operative system. If we turn it on (clicking on the button iniciar) it will show a message asking you to insert a boot DVD disk. We don't have any physical LLiurex DVD, but we can use a virtual one, in an ISO file instead.
An ISO file contains an image of a DVD. This means the DVD contents have been dumped into the ISO file, turning it into a perfect copy of the DVD. We must mount the /home/miusuario/compartido/lliurex-escriptori_amd64_1505_latest.iso on the virtual DVD driver and install the Operative System. Select the almacenamiento section
Click on the DVD icon (in the place pointed by the red arrow in the image below)
Click on the icon signaled by the blue arrow in the image above to deploy the menu showed in the image below. Select seleccionar un archivo de disco virtual de CD/DVD. Select the file /publico/lliurex-escriptori_amd64_1505_latest.iso
Click again on the button iniciar to turn on the VM. This time the VM boots using the ISO installer file an the installation of LLiurex starts
Select a language (Spanish, English or Valencian) and click on the button instala lliurex.
Make sure in the next window that all the LLiurex installation requirements are met. Enable the option Descargar actualizaciones y software de terceros
In our VM there's nothing installed, so you can delete all the contents in the hard disk and install Lliurex using all the space available. So select esborra el disk i .....
Finally select instalar ahora
Select Madrid date and time
Select the keyboad set up showed in the picture bellow
In the next screen enter your full name, the computer name, and the admin username, and password. Write it down in your cell phone or agenda so that hopefully you will remember it the next time you log in.
Restart the VM when the installation process ends. A window might pop up showing that the boot disk (the ISO file) is still mounted and must be remove it before the system reboot. Return to the VirtualBox main window, select the Almacenamiento section and remove the Iso file from the D: drive.
Take a screen picture of your desktop showing the VM running in a window and upload it to Moodle, using the link Upload the screen capture of your Virtual Machine first boot.
