2 hour clil unit - Rachmaninov's prelude op. 23 nº 5

Lesson 1 (1 hour)

Designed for a piano student of 6th course of Enseñanza Profesional (last year before attending University), please bear in mind piano classes are individual ones, so is just the student and the teacher in class.

During the last trimester a work already mastered by the student and that has been decided to be one of the chosen to be played in the exam to attend Conservartorio Superior de Música next course, will be selected by the teacher for this exercise.

Teacher will provide three different versions of the work, selected from youtube.com, played by renowned piano virtuosos.

For demonstrative purposes of this activity, let us assume the work selected is Rachmaninov's prelude op. 23 nº 5.

At first teacher will present the student the viewing of all this three interpretations us a relaxed activity for just enjoyment in class.

Afterwards teacher will promote a quick debate, no more than 5 minutes, so the student can say whatever struck him as relevant from those interpretations.

Teacher will provide the necessary vocabulary in L2 when the student lacks it to express himself.

Then the teacher provides the student with a set of precise parameters for the student to evaluate and compare among the three interpretations and his own: tempo, use of the pedal, phrasing, use of the rubato, equilibrium of the voices.

Teacher will allow the student to comment on this parameters and then the three videos will be replayed, but now the student knows where he has to put his attention into.

Afterwards student will produce his assessment of the parameters, teacher will promote comments and reflection whereas the student has lacked to pay attention to and assist the students with the L2 grammar and vocabulary needed.

Student will produce a written a report with the improvements he can introduce into his interpretation.

 

Lesson 2 (1 hour)

The student will make an oral exposition in L2 presenting the different improvements introduced in its playing feeling free to illustrate them by playing them on the piano. (20’)

Then the student will played the work (5´)

The teacher will comment on the playing and the exposition providing insight both into the musical content and the linguistic one. (35’)

Assessment will be oriented to solve any lackings in the student knowledge.
