Solar System Bodies

3.1. Solar System bodies (50 min.)

We are dealing with a 4th ESO of group without experience in CLIL (A2 level maximum), that is why each step should be clear before starting it. 

This session will promote the students initiative and their teamwork skills. This session will take place in the computers room because they will carry out a research. The students will be divided in 12 groups (4 students maximum) and each one of them will work with one of the following topics:

• Sun
• Mercury
• Venus
• Earth
• Mars
• Jupiter
• Saturn
• Uranus
• Neptune
• Asteroid
• Meteor
• Comet

Depending on the topic, the group should answer some questions.

Sun

• Which relative position does it have in the Solar System?
• Which are the parts of the Sun?
• Which is the temperature in each one?
• Which is the relative size of the Sun, comparing with the rest of the bodies?
• Which are the main elements present in the Sun?
• Does the Sun have any important feature?

Any planet

• Which relative position does it have in the Solar System?
• Which is the relative size of this one, comparing with the rest of the planets?
• Does it have satellites?
• Does it have atmosphere? Which is the average temperature?
• Which are the main elements present in the planet? And in the atmosphere?
• Does this planet have any important feature?

Comet, meteor or asteroid

• Which relative position does it have in the Solar System?
• Which is the composition?
• Which is their origin?
• Does this body have any important feature?

4.1. Oral presentation (50 min.)

Once they have finished, they will prepare a short presentation to show the rest what they have found out. They have to answer the questions orally using a Powerpoint presentation with graphical information. These presentations will be done during the session 4.

The teacher will provide the learner with this table to help them with the most important expressions that they are going to use in their presentation.
