The "art" of Palermo

 

Introduction
So what do you really know about Palermo and its Cathedral?  Let's start this little journey in the city and take your seat and enjoy!

 

 

 

Task

You will work in a group of four people. Choose a topic together with your group members so and collect the most important information from the link belong . After you can share information you have learned with your class.  In the activiti belong mach the words to the pictures.

 

 

 

 

 2. Activity for the whole class

This activity is great fun and serves to verify what you remember from the previous activity. Play with hangman, and guess what the pictures reppresent.

 

 

3. Group activites.

In this part of CLIL, the class will be divided into three groups. Each group will follow and complete a specific task.

Group 1.

Palermo is the capital of Sicily. Palermo's 12th-century cathedral houses royal tombs, while the imposing neoclassical Teatro Massimo is famouse for its opera performances. Also in the center there are the Palazzo Reale, a Royal palace dating back to the 9th century, and the Palatine Chapel, with Byzantine mosaic. 

Choose a name for the group. Look for the characteristics of Palermo and the history of this city. You can put the information in the padlet that you will find  to the green buttom belong. I call this Padlet "My Trinacria" because the Trinacria is the symbol of the Sicilian Region. 

Group 2. 

Choose a name for the group.

Group two will created a lapbook. What will you put inside the lapbook? Inside the lapbook you will insert the history of the cathedral of Palermo, Santa Rosalia  the Politema. You can find the information about this place on the iternet .

The lapbook will be shared with all classmates and a debate will open about the monuments of Palermo.To build the lapbook you have to buy a poster ( in the color) and divideded it in three parts.

For this work you will buy some colors, pens and print photos of the cathedral, Politeama and Santa Rosalia.  Attached and also at the botton there is a video with an explanation on a how to compose a lapbook. 

 

Group 3.

Choose a name for the group. 

In Sicily there are varius desserts such as cannoli, martorana fruit, almond biscuits, pignoccata etc. Each dessert listed is of Arab or Spanish origin because Sicily has been dominated over the years by varius rulars populations. 

The Cassata is typically composed of a round sponge cake moistened with fruit juice or liqueur with ricotta cheese and candied fruit. It has a shell of marziapan, pink and green colored icing, and decorative desings .The hinabitants of Palermo consider the Sicilian cassata as an art.

Then the third group will have to create the Cassata with the Das. 

Also, you will also have look up for the recipe for Cassata and explain it to their classmates.
