Task 1.

Read some information about The Islands of St. Paul

> The Islands of St. Paul, are on the North East coast of Malta.

> The Maltese believe that St. Paul was shipwrecked on these islands in the year 60AD.

> St Paul was a prisoner on a Roman ship.

> He was travelling to Rome from Jerusalem.

> It was mid-February.

> There was a very big storm in the Mediterranean Sea.

> The full story is in the Bible, in the Acts of the Apostles.

The following is the text from the video. Click on any word you do not understand to get its definition.

1. The ship hit a rock. The Romans and the prisoners swam to the shore.

2. The Maltese went to the beach to help the people from the broken ship.

3. They wanted to build a fire to keep them warm

4. St Paul wanted to help.

5. He picked up some sticks.

6. Among the sticks there was a viper and it bit St. Paul on his hand.

7. The viper was a poisonous snake.

8. The Maltese people thought that Paul would fall down and die.

9. But, St. Paul shook his hand and the viper fell into the fire.

9. Nothing happened to St. Paul. 

10. So the Maltese people thought that he was a god.

11. St. Paul, then started to talk to them about Christianity.

12. Many people believed him and became Christians.

13. The governor of the islands, Publius, invited St. Paul to his house.

14. Publius’ father was very ill.

15. St. Paul touched him and healed him.

16. The Maltese people got their sick people to St. Paul and he healed them

17. St. Paul stayed in Malta for three months.

18. Then he continued his journey to Rome.

They are verbs that are followed by one or two particles (a preposition or an adverb).
