Content:
Intrapersonal intelligence is the capacity for self-knowledge and self-reflection.
It is also the basis for our personal growth and development, allowing us to improve by looking inward, so it is important to cultivate and stimulate this ability throughout our lives.
Intrapersonal intelligence can provide us with benefits in different areas of our lives. The following ones stand out:
And, consequently, the analysis of our strengths and weaknesses. This can be essential for our professional development, for a career change or during a job search.
Through visualisation and imagination we can generate an idea of the situation, in which aspects we perform adequately and in which we do not perform so well and would like to work in order to improve them.
People with a developed intrapersonal intelligence adapt and accept changes in their life goals, just as they do as a person. This is why it is necessary to seek and create moments of reflection about what we want, what our needs are and how they have evolved over time. By developing intrapersonal intelligence, it is possible to elaborate a hierarchy of objectives, to evaluate what we lack to achieve them and what we could do in relation to what we lack.
It also allows us to value those objectives set in the past and already achieved, to value learning, how they made us feel, etc.
Intrapersonal intelligence also helps to know what kind of activities and stimuli promote inner reflection and contact with your emotions. People are different, so what is beneficial for someone else may not be for you and vice versa. It is important for us to get to know what is conducive to our internal dialogue. Some of these activities can be playing a certain type of music and being in solitude, practising yoga, practising meditation, painting, playing an instrument, practising sport, going for a walk, talking to other people about yourself and your emotions, writing about your emotions, going to a psychologist, etc.
The development of introspection and self-knowledge makes it easier to carry out planned tasks in a well-organised way, as we become more aware of our objectives and the plan to follow in order to achieve them.
In addition, the combination of self-knowledge, autonomy and self-control will help us to recover from failed attempts and not lose sight of the goal we are pursuing.
The ability to manage emotions and remain calm in pressure situations is also worked through intrapersonal intelligence.
The benefits related to self-control will have positive effects on our serenity, mood and physiological state.
It allows us to recognise our own objectives and order them by importance in order to make better decisions about them and their achievement.
The positive evaluation of oneself is essential in order not to fall down in adverse situations and not to forget what we can offer to others and to the world.
Not only to improve the vision of ourselves and to be aware of our own value but also of our achievements, goals and efforts made to reach them.
Intrapersonal intelligence connects us and makes us better understand the here and the now, becoming aware of who we are, where we want to go and how we can get there.
Intrapersonal intelligence is key to all aspects of life and is especially useful in the workplace. Work is often a challenging achievement for a person, which means that he or she has to face it in the best possible conditions and thus be in a position to achieve the proposed goals. Job-specific skills, training and previous experience are important for this.
However, all this is not effective if the talent does not possess sufficient intrapersonal intelligence. In the professional spectrum there are often moments of pressure, where it is easy for negative employee attitudes to surface, such as pressures, disappointments, frustrations, envy... This can lead to internal conflicts between team members. At such times, managing emotions properly can prevent many problems.
Through the application of intrapersonal intelligence in our lives, we will improve the vision we have of ourselves, we will rethink our values, objectives and goals, as well as the weaknesses we will have to overcome to reach them.
