Introduction:
In this LU you will know the key steps to manage mistakes
Content
Mistakes are important, we should not be afraid of them, but we have to deal and manage them
In order to manage mistakes we have to follow a series of steps.
- Acknowledgement. The first step in order to solve a problem is to acknowledge that a mistake has been made. Time is important. Passing the buck to others or sweeping under the rug is going to make the problem worse. If we pretend that the mistake does not exist, the problem will still remain, and the effects are going to be bigger.
- Responsibility. This can be the most difficult step for us. Taking responsibility for a mistake is usually hard. If you make an apology, make a real one.
- Being specific. When you commit an error, you should pinpoint all the details. When an error occurs everybody should ask all the questions needed. It is not the same knowing that your car engine is broken because the pilot is on than the check that a professional mechanic will make on it. For solving mistakes , information is key.
- Make the right plan. When all the information has been collected and processed, the next part of solving a problem is to make a plan.
- Act. Once the plan is made, the next step is to act on that plan. Be flexible. If the plan is not working, try to adapt it. Flexibility is key in this aspect.
- Review. After the plan is implemented, it should be reviewed. This will not be helpful to know if the initial problem has been solved. This review report should generate new outcomes of how the problem was generated, how it can be solved and how it can be avoided in the future.
