One of the ways to embrace solidarity is to get involved in community charities, to dynamize activities... but you can also do personal changes to embrace it. Here we are going to mention some tips to build solidarity:
- Stop assuming who the people are or how they are going to behave. Sometimes we tend to think that people are going to act in some ways for our prefixed ideas. This undermines solidarity. Learn to listen. Learn to know people. This goes far beyond fighting prejudices. It goes even for more personal relations and prefixed ideas.
- Learn to understand people from different backgrounds. You have to learn to understand people of different backgrounds and situations. You have to learn to respect others and see them as peers.
- Being aware of power relations power relations undermine solidarity. We don't have the capacity of intervening in most power relations, but we can think about them. Thinking in which situation are we favored, in which situations we are disadvantaged, and how other people are affected by that.
- Creating a bigger us. One of the tips to build solidarity by oneself is to create a bigger us. To make people that could be coming from different backgrounds or facing different situations part of that us when a common goal is shared.
- Rethinking accepted ideas and frameworks together. The way to create a solidaristic framework must be done in a collective way. People from different backgrounds and situations, but a common goal must report their own perspective to build an intersubjective frame that unites everybody.
