According to Robert E. Franken, creativity is the tendency to generate or recognise ideas, alternatives or possibilities, that may be useful in problem solving, communication and entertaining. 

To be creative, one needs to be able to view things from a different perspective and generate new possibilities. This is linked to other basic qualities of thinking such as flexibility, tolerance of ambiguity or unpredictability. 

The following are the characteristics of a creative personality according to Mihaly Csikszentmilayi:
